Priv.-Doz. Dr. Bernhard Wessels, born in 1955, studied sociology, political economy, statistics, and political science at the Freie Universität Berlin.

Research fellow at the Central Institute for Social Science Research (Zentralinstitut für sozialwissenschaftliche Forschung), Freie Universität Berlin from 1982 to 1989; since 1989 research fellow at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB). Main research interests: political sociology, interest intermediation, and comparative studies on political representation, research on elections and political attitudes.
